Ollie
27.10.2006, 11:45 p.m.

Tonight was a bad night, everything is all over the place. Our cat, Ollie, got hit by a car (that didn't stop!) and was left in the road outside our house. The receptionist's son-in-law found him and told us, he called the emergency vet who was waiting for us to bring him in. My sister, mum and step-dad all went whilse I stayed back home.

Just over half an hour later they returned with no Ollie. He was in an oxygen tent with little blood clots around his brain and lungs. He'd been hit in the head by the car, that's why he had the clots around his brain. He had no movement in his tail and had numbeness around his brain although there was slight movement when he was been stroked by the vets. He had also been trying to get up and walk - we hoped this was a good sign. The vet had high hopes for him although the first 48 hours would be critical like it is for everyone. She had said he could suffer brain damage and/or incontinence due to his lack of tail movement.

Unfortunately a little over an hour since my family arrived home we received a call to say he had died. He had got quieter and quieter and had stopped trying to move as much. We think he passed away without suffering. But he still died. The vet was sorry she had led us to believe he could be fine, but she honestly thought he would live. She thinks it was the bleeding around the brain that had got worse and which eventually led to his death.

My sister was hysterical. He was her beloved baby and she lived basically for him. She had calmed down a lot but has just started sobbing again. It's going to be such a wrench for her.

Poor little mite died after being cuddled by her and the vets and being looked after. Hopefully his death was peaceful and without pain. I just feel that we hadn't done enough, we don't know how long he lay in the road before being found, could we have done more?

I loved him and am going to miss him so much.
